Hi!
For the past few days I have been doing some code optimization and design work for the upcoming weapons.
Since I already implemented the separate magazine system, there is now this design decision to be made how I'm going to approach chambering the round.
Option 1 (Automatic):
- When you attach a magazine to the weapon and chamber is empty, it will play an animation which also reloads the weapon by pulling the charging handle automatically.
- Weapon would be ready to fire after this single animation.
Option 2 (Manual):
- When you attach a magazine to the weapon and chamber is empty, it will only play an animation which attaches the magazine to the weapon.
- Once the magazine is attached you will have to manually press some key to pull the charging handle, so it would be a separated animation.
- Weapon would be ready to fire after only after the charging handle animations (if the chamber was empty)
This system would then be displayed in a way like shown in the screenshots, so the ammo check animation would display both the chamber and round status.
In the UI the ammo status would be displayed like this:
Before you give your opinion on this, try to think if you really would enjoy that manual approach and having full control of the ammo / magazine system or would it be annoying in the long term :)
