Shelter Customization (Update)
Added 2025-01-25 21:26:02 +0000 UTCHi!
Here's a quick update related to shelter customization.
On top of the base functionality (shown few posts ago), I have now implemented a furniture catalogue system which is a must-have feature to make decorating more convenient.
Then I have also designed few pretty useful "helper features". For example if you place a lot of items to shelves and you decide to turn the Decor Mode on and move the shelf, all those items that were in the shelf gets parented to the shelf, so you can move big groups of objects at once.
I will share tomorrow a second preview video here about the shelter customization and how these new features work in practice.
Early next week, I'm going to connect the crafting system to this and that will then allow crafting new DIY furniture to the catalogue etc.
Once this is done, I will share you the dev build where you can test this entire system and also make a detailed Youtube feature highlight video from this.
I'm really excited how this system is turning out and like mentioned few times earlier, I think this shelter customization thing is going to provide a massive replayability factor to the early access, especially when combined with multi-shelter support etc.

Good man! Parenting objects would be a useful function if you ever make assets like "brown_cardboard_box" or "wooden_rifle_crate"

2025-01-26 12:29:42 +0000 UTCAntti, for the free-form placement system - how hard would it be to implement a hotkey to toggle item snapping? In the demo, I often found myself using this placement system to store extra materials on the shelves, like ammo boxes. Becuase the wooden crate had a weight restriction - as a sidenote: it seems like a space restriction rather than a weight restriction is more appropriate for the wooden crate - but thats up to you... anyway, I digress - since the crate would often go overweight from all the ammo collection, I started stacking it on the shelves with the other items like food and bandages, but I always ran into issues with the ammo boxes (and other items) not really stacking well. I mean, it works, yeah, but it was often quite time consuming stacking everything up after I got back from a forray into the environment. The items would often clip into each other and after several layers, the layers would start to get uneven. So I thought, you know, a toggle switch for on/off item to item snapping seems like a cool idea for stacking objects on top of each other. Just an idea! Love your work, keep it up and super excited for each and every new bit of info! Thank you!
