Great reaction video. Unfortunately the reason you remember the name Terry Funk is because of his passing a year ago the same week as Bray Wyatt. It might have even been a day apart. Many say he’s the greatest ever.

Since I saw that nobody has answered your question, at least in this video, I decided to do a bit of watch along commentary 😉 Yes, this Cell is smaller than the new ones. I believe they made the new ones taller because of this match, because they didn't want another wrestler to try and outdo Mankind. So they made them taller to prevent others from jumping off them. Yeah, that pyro is scary, but at least it all went well here. For a pyro accident, you can look at Undertaker's entrance at Elimination Chamber 2010. That was nasty and that mad man actually wrestled afterwards. I believe, that is people in the writing business call foreshadowing 😁 It really is crazy that they started with that spot. And pretty unbelievable that Mick Foley was well enough/hopped up on enough adrenaline to continue after both falls. Without a doubt. The announce table spot went precisely as planned and was comparatively safe (for a given value of "safe"), but the other fall went a lot worse than planned. Doubly so with the chair falling with Mankind and hitting him in the head. For all the props Mick Foley gets, and deservedly so, I still find it incredible that Undertaker was able to jump down from the cage into the ring with a broken ankle. Honestly, I think being loss at words is the natural reaction to seeing this match the first time. I believe that this is the first tumbtacks spot in the WWF/WWE and yeah, they are absolutely real. And still something I'd prefer to experience compared to the other stuff in the match 😅 The most incredible thing is, that Mankind managed to get to his interference spot in the match afterwards. I think Vince had the best reaction afterwards, and I'm paraphrasing here: "I appreciate what you just did. I never want to see you do something like that again."

Terry passed away earlier this year but he’s the defintion of a crazy wild man in wrestling. He just had that legendary status from working the territories and becoming a household name wherever he went. Every big name in the business you can look it up they have had some amazing feud with Terry there’s just too many to name in a comment. Due to his passing there’s gotta be somebody who’s compiled a nice detailed explanation of who he was online that you can find.

Also after reading comments gonna add some other things that both undertaker and mandkind have said about this match: When the chokeslam through the cage happened as people have said it shouldn't have been broken, but if not mistaken Mick Foley himself(or the undertaker can't remember) went on record saying that if the choke slam was high as normal(and it wasn't simply due to the cage ceeling not being solid, as far I heard) Mick goes to the ring and dies... It was really a brutal spot. Also it was Micks idea to start on top of the cage, so that it was unique because Mick said he wanted to surpass what Undertaker did with Shawn in the first Hell in a Cell match in 1997. Also Undertaker has said that at one point looking down at Foleys body after the cage broke he fast understood he was "fine", and somehow Mick also said that even in all the pain that he was in(and people in the comments have described) he still wanted to do the thumbtacks spot. And yes those were real thumbtacks, they removed em backstage; Thumbtacks are a Foley "special" . It was great seeing your reaction to this match after a I saw it a couple of years ago.

2024-05-27 01:30:42 +0000 UTCNow you know why people recommended this match. It is intense and kinda hard to watch but required viewing for anyone who hasn't seen it. To give some context, the first fall was planned. The second one through the cage was not. The thumbtacks were real and they are kind of a staple of hardcore and deathmatch wrestling. They look bad but aren't nearly as bad as they look. This is definitely one of the hardest WWE matches to watch. The only one that tops it is probably Rock vs Mankind I Quit Match at Royal Rumble 1999 but I would not recommend anyone watch it. It's just a gross match and watching it knowing what we do about concussions now is very very difficult. I would recommend even if that one is suggested to skip it. It's a good match but it is definitely overshadowed by unprotected steel chair shots to the head.

And they had to tell him that he did, in fact, do the spot and the thumbtacks were still sticking in his head and body. It's also worth mentioning he was planned to do a run-in in the main event and no one in the world would have blamed him if he couldn't do it but he insisted on going back out

2024-05-26 23:59:25 +0000 UTCA few answers to some questions. Mankind was a heel here, that was his heel theme, he’d get his face theme, the one you probably know better early the next year. Same with mr socko, that stuff was part of his face character. The second fall was physically worse for Mick than the first and it wasn’t planned. The chair hit him on the way down that knocked out his tooth. Which you later see in his nose. The cage was not supposed to break the way it did. They would reinforce it in the future after this match. Those thumbtacks are very much real and he always used them in a lot of his big matches. He would suffer puncture wounds from that spot. On top of that he had dislocated his shoulder, had internal bleeding, and bruised ribs. He’s incredibly lucky his injuries weren’t more severe and he didn’t miss much time after this. You should watch the YouTube video wwe posted last year where Undertaker and Mick discuss the match on its 25th anniversary
