Undertaker vs Triple H - WM28

Watch: https://streamable.com/cxoyen

Comments

To this day I still think this should have been the finale of Undertaker's streak matches. This match convinced me that no one was ever going to be able to beat Undertaker and that 20-0 was the perfect record to retire the streak with. I thought the Brock Lesnar match was completely unbelievable, and that there was no way Brock should have been able to win. Undertaker losing the streak is what caused me to stop watching WWE regularly for about ten years. I just started watching regularly again around the beginning of January this year.

HahnKirby

This was the 1st Mania I ever attended live and will always hold a special place in my heart

PatAnthonyMD

Yeah watching all 4 was a must because it's one major story between these 3 over the course of 4 years

Hunter

It's funny, I was here, but this is my first time watching it back. Great way to revisit this match

sXe_Wolverine

The beat the streak mode was HELLA DIFFICULT😭 I remember crying of rage trying to beat him as a kid

Kevin Diouf

Had to show off the hair cut and beard trim

Dport

NO HAT?!

Charlie

Since there was no promo video, I’ll just add some context. The story going into this was undertaker wanted to face HHH after last year. He felt defeated even though he won last year as he didn’t walk out on his own accord. No one had beaten him that badly before so there was a story reason why the match ended the way it did at 27. So he challenged HHH to a rematch at mania, which is the unlike most years as it’s usually someone challenging taker for a chance to break the streak. HHH declined, he wasn’t interested and he was also the on screen COO at the time. He claimed he had more important things to worry about but taker convinced him by saying Shawn was better. Getting under his skin by using the insecurities of the hhh character. I recommend going back to watch the promo video for it on YouTube if you get a chance. It’s a lot of great storytelling from these 3.

David

Ryan Evans

Still a little disappointed. Not your fault obviously.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

I guess so. Thankfully i still enjoyed the hell out of this one

Dport

Hey the rock vs John cena main evented this show the other big match was punk vs jericho

Ryan Evans

Top 3 for me. My favorite is Rock vs hhh backlash 2000

Phillyman!!

Ah you must have recorded this before I commented saying to look up the promo video on YouTube. It’s supreme and is one of my favourites.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Thats my fav hhh match ever great match

Ryan Evans

You should definitely watch hhh vs cactus Jack royal rumble 2000. If you enjoy heel hhh

Phillyman!!

In the Ruthless Aggression Era Taker was on Free TV all the time. It was even a Running bit for The Smackdown GM Teddy Long that if someone pissed him off they would have a match with Taker that night.

Jordan Alford

I like him. Seems like he'd be a fun heel to watch.

Dport

What ur 1st impression of hhh as a wrestler? As a,new fan who didnt see him wrestle before both taker matches

Ryan Evans

And on the next poll put on Sasha banks vs bayley Nxt Brooklyn 2015

Phillyman!!

I might need to find this

Dport

there actually is an Undertaker showcase mode where you try to defeat the streak or play in some of the best matches in the streak. Its in wwe2k14 apart of the 30 years of WrestleMania mode

Jayshawn Robinson

Loved this match. Unbelievable story telling. BTW, I think you should see the Usos v the New Day in hell in a cell. One of my favorite hell in a cell matches.

Nate Cruz

The main event of this show was John Cena vs the Rock which obviously had more mainstream appeal. If Wrestlemania was two nights back then, this would have been the night one main event.

Ryan Redd

I really appreciate Jim Ross and Jerry Lawlwr now that Ive been able to see where they started. Jim Ross started doing commentary with and traveling/taking care of Leroy Mcgurk a blind promoter. He then went to Mid South and it's so cool now to go on Peacock and see him start out with a full head of hair and just so much life to him. Jerry Lawler growing up was just the old guy in commentary at WWE. Now that I get he was the #1 draw in Memphis for forever and is a legend in so many respects do I really respect him. There's a AMAZING documentary called Memphis Heat that's on YouTube.

John Coffey

As a die hard taker fan this match gave me 10 heart attacks when I watched it live

Matt Guy

Gotcha 👍

Phillyman!!

Thats on the list for categories for future suggestions.

Dport

How about watching famous promos? Short videos obviously so you can do a ton in one sitting

Phillyman!!

THE GREATEST FALSE FINISH IN WRESTLING HISTORY!!!!

Jordan Alford

Oh, for sure! I meant more the replies saying they thought the match was boring at the time. I totally understand your reasoning

Fred Esquef

It's not that I thought it was boring, really. And I greatly appreciate selling. I just think there's a degree to which it becomes extensive. 3 full minutes of laying down, then a single move, followed by 3 more minutes of laying down starts to add up for me when I'm watching an isolated match. I'm sure I can enjoy those breaks more in current day matched where I am equally as invested in the story as everyone else.

Dport

Maybe reacting to some of the documentaries WWE has put out would be interesting? Only problem is most of them are over an hour long.

Oscar Islas

God I've been waiting for the finale this match the story telling is so fucking good

Big Myke

It's really interesting to me reading some people in the last match's comments staying they taught the match was boring or slow. I find it to be a near perfect example of storytelling through the action. Of course they're laid down and suffering, they've been taking a beating for half an hour! It's selling, it's making it believable. It's a problem I have with a lot of "modern" wrestling, where it feels like the matches have no downtime, it's high gear the whole time. And if you love it, that's awesome! The new guys are amazing athletes and the matches are fun, no denying that. But to me, it takes away from the art a little bit. Anyway, glad you liked this one! I love it as well. Looking forward to the next ones!

Fred Esquef
