This had to be the main event, especially after WM 25 where they stole the show and the main event wound up sucking. Jumping tombstone was not the usual at all and I freaking love it every time I see it here.

Big Ell

Did it ever happen?

Big Ell

For me, 25 always felt better, because the near falls were more believable to me. After all, when HBK kicked out of a Chokeslam, Last Ride, and especially the Tombstone at WM25, that was genuinely surprising. In contrast to that, I couldn't believe those near falls in WM26 because I've already seen HBK kick out of them, so I also expected him to kick out now. Though the jumping Tombstone from 26 is definitely a highlight. Speaking of the Tombstone, it's technically a Kneeling Reverse Piledriver, that was first used, and I believe named as Tombstone, by Andre the Giant in the 70s.

Carrington Telpman

In hindsight it’s easy to say the outcome of this match was a given because we know where the streak did end, but at the time it was easier to make people believe they really didn’t know if hbk could do it or not

Beauman Davis

at minute 27:00 it was meant to be a facebuster reversal, the commentators kind of ruined it by being confused by what happened there

panda

'reversing the pressure' isnt actually based in reality at all i dont think. its just visually good

panda

Yep! that's how I've been doing it. I do the top 3 or so, depending on how the votes look.

Dport

Hey so on the poll how are u going to do it with that many on the poll maybe like u watchalong the top 5 or 3 that highest on poll

Ryan Evans

Yh ur have to do watchalong to it like as 1 of bad matches to watch another bad one was taker vs goldberg in Saudi that sucked

Ryan Evans

Damn. I think I heard about that. Sucks he got hurt so bad.

Dport

He did for a long time retire but then few years ago wwe offered him few million for a Saudi show and he teamed with hhh to face taker and kane it was awful just all past there prime was very sloppy and just really bad match and hhh got injured was awful even them 4 said after in interviews wasant very good match

Ryan Evans

Hey taker has tapped out a few times but was when a draw so 2 times he tapped out once to kurt angle on a sd show they had a match angle got him in a triangle choke and at same time angles shoulders were down for 3 count and at same time on 3 count taker tapped out and the other time very simlier think but the ref didn't see it at summerslam 2015 lesner got taker in kimura lock and taker tapped but ref didn't see so has few times but not to like lose a match clean

Ryan Evans

Hey I thought u was gonna do an aew match watchalong I think u like mjf vs punk dog collar match think was at revolution 2022 great match was good heated feud aswell one of best aew rivarlys since its been around in 2019

Taker vs hbk always had great matches u should also try undertaker vs shawn micheal hell in a cell great match 1997 think was in your house bad blood 97 some say to this daytime best ever hiac match it defo in top 5 ever

Ryan Evans

I absolutely adore the video package for this match. It’s one of the best ever. Not this video package. This isn’t anywhere near as good. The one I’m talking about has Running Up That Hill by Placebo. And yes, Shawn IS singing the song. There’s also a version on YouTube of Vince McMahon singing it and it’s fucking cursed. That cylindrical tron was something they had for Mania XXVI and they would lower it down above the ring during entrances. Obviously you already know now that XXVII they had a cube that they’d also lower down. I was really hoping they’d have a bell for XL and was disappointed when they didn’t have one.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Also regarding predictability, I don't think at the time any of the later streak matches were actually all that predictable. Some people including myself thought wm 25 might have been the peak of the streak. So might as well wrap the streak up at wm 26 and maybe they both retire at the end having given their best possible match.

Janja50

I don't think people ever really hated the streak, maybe certain opponents in a sense of "Obviously this person isn't going to break the streak, they don't need that push."

Janja50

It’s not a great match because taker gets concussed very early on. But it’s still worth a watch just for the moment itself.

David

I heard what you said about WM 13 bret and austin and I get it, so may I suggest their match from the fall prior at survivor series 1996 if you decide not to react to the WM 13 match on here.

Matt Guy

The Running up that Hill promo package was better than the one played here. I recommend watching that one

Tk Banks

People didn't hate the streak but there were and are people who aren't huge Taker fans. I love his gravitas but some people find him kinda boring, but thats on weekly tv. At Wrestlemania the guy goes into full gear and usually delivers bangers.

Finalwolfe

This wrestlemania had such a great theme song dude. Also just a great choice to marathon these matches!!!

Blaine Cardwell

From what I've heard announcers say, "piledriver" is the general move type but the "tombstone piledriver" refers specifically to the variant where you go to your knees straight up, as opposed to kneeling down or dropping on your butt

prototype27

Growing up the Streak was basically the equivalent of a championship. Especially since Taker rarely went into Mania as the champion. A lot of times if he was carrying the title they would have him drop it before mania even.

Jordan Alford

Regarding you comment about Undertakers weight. I saw an interview with Samantha Irvin where she said the Ring Announcers are required to know the weight and Hometown of every wrestler by heart. So I don’t think they are allowed to round up.

Jordan Alford

Yeah, that happened and I think it's a match everyone who was a fan of them wanted to forget. HHH tearing a pec early in the match and it was a sloppy botch-fest from everyone. HBK was okay in it but obviously way past what he was capable of in this WM retirement match.

Bryan Sem

Yeah you could reverse the pressure but it’s over exaggerated in wrestling

n0pe

Shawn did retire until, I think, some Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia for one match but because it was like a demand to see a tag match with DX and Brothers of Destruction (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, it was before I came back fully to wrestling again)

Angel Rodriguez

from his early days to come back from his back injury, to this, to now running NXT....what a journey Shawn Micheals has had

Optilliam

HBK retired after this

jerimya

Yes. HBK retired after this. He never wrestled another match. Nope. That never happened.

Ryan Redd

I'll post one this week for suggestions for the following week. I'm doing these undertaker matches this week. So expect a suggestion post by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.

Dport

This was the last WM I watched while still following until I came back for WM 36 for Undertaker's Boneyard Match vs AJ

Chilly_Gamerboy

Are you by any chance doing a match suggestion post anytime soon? I have a specific match I'm dying to suggest.

Oscar Islas

I'm gonna have to watch out get broken at some point

Dport

When The Undertaker streak being broken, I felt like my childhood was over

Tín Phạm

I don't think anyone really hated the streak

Ethan Sofinowski

The streak was loved in it's time, fans were pissed that it was broken at all. Undertaker was rarely in title fueds and the streak was almost like it's own championship defended once a year. The early match weren't all great but the 2000's had a lot of intriguing streak matches like edge,Orton, and Michaels that made the streak something to look forward to every wrestlemania.

chicken n waffles

Man excited to see you see this quartet, I think I was the first one asking to watch these, hopefully you enjoy all 4 :)
