2024-08-25 21:17:57 +0000 UTCI remember watching this match at one of my dad's friends house when I was young. They rarely got together to buy a PPV that wasn't WWF/WWE, but they enjoyed Samoa Joe and AJ Styles so they invited us over and I had never seen AJ before but I loved it.

The X Division was meant to be like the cruiserweight division without a weight limit. So high-impact exciting matches that focused on ring work more than story and promos. AJ, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe were veterans of the indie wrestling scene around that time so they along with a few others were trusted to kinda anchor the division at that time. You could always count on the X Division to have the best matches on the card. Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe are both now in AEW. Joe is the most recent world champion before the current champ, Swerve Strickland, and Daniels has mostly transitioned into a backstage role.

This left us with a WWE monopoly and a big gaping hole in the wrestling landscape. TNA and Ring of Honor were two notable companies that filled that gap. And all three of these guys were mainstays of both. Modern wrestling would be a very different place without TNA and ROH.
