Gassy Streets
Added 2018-03-31 00:07:51 +0000 UTCIt's been a crazy busy month! I've had to bust my ass this month to make sure I could pay my bills, but I did it! and with a few days to spare no less. I finally have some time to do some Cerebrawl/personal work, so I wanted to post a bit about what I was working on.
Earlier this month you may have seen me working on this drawing. I found a picture on the internet that was both chilling and adorable.
It showed up on my inspiration feed and a google image search revealed that it was in a Newsweek Korea article
Anyway, the juxtaposition of the eerie setting and the flashy cute hazmat suits grabbed me and I wanted to make something that amplified that feeling I got.
I started out with this sketch almost three weeks ago, and then got consumed with work, so I was forced to walk away from it. After having a few conversations with friends about natural composition, when I came back to it, i noticed that all the figures and lines of action were layed out in a grid that was reflected by the perspective of the piece. This gave the image a robotic feeling that I wasn't really intending.
After realizing this I re-worked the sketch. Just by re-drawing the body in the lower right corner, the other lines of action kinda took on a more natural feel to it.
I then added a grey/blue base tone underneath the drawing. My thoughts were that I wanted to draw this in an overcast setting. Living in Seattle, I've realized that fluorescent colors tend to pierce through humid air and overcast light schemes far better than any natural color can. If I use lots of occlusion and de-saturated colors I'll be able to make that hazmat suit pop even more.
Going forward, I can't wait to show you guys how I color things!
