How I create a WALKING BASS in 5 steps (very quick guide)

When you demonstrate in 10 levels of difficulty an arrangement as autumn leaves .. it decomposes the difficulty and dedramatizes the learning process for someone like me who has been playing for a long time without realy improving and trying new things... so just wanted to say again thanks for your demonstrations , that has brought back some fun for me to learn new things on the guitar!!

Yes, I will do more videos on harmonization. But mostly it is experimenting and finding the chords that fit with the melody notes. And a lot of personal taste of course! The walking bass pattern is partly "fitted" to my hand, and what is in the end possible to play together with the melody. Creating a walking bass is not that hard once you have the root notes, as you simply have to find a path between them using quarter notes. Almost any notes work as long as you land on the root notes. The coordination is best learned by printing the parts out together and learning it step by step as a song. It's harder if youre doing it without, having to keep both things in the head simultaneously if that makes any sense. The more you do, the easier it gets because your hands start to learn the patterns automatically. Bass walk with melody would be very hard with a pick, better to do it fingerstyle I would say!

Very useful stuff Lucas, thanks! Would love to see a follow up of the melody to chord step using Jazz harmony concepts. Why and when 2-5-1 v. 1-6-2-5, tritone or whatever. Does it really matter. Is mappi g the walk a simple case of finding the path between roots your hand can follow? What are your recommendations for developing the coordination to play the walk and melody together? Any suggestions for bass walk + melody with a plectrum?
