Thanks Lucas! That lesson provides a nice structure. I have tried to jump to the last few steps in the past without going through the first couple. I like the idea of implied harmony based on the tension notes since I would usually always be thinking of full chords in the past and suffering from too much info and too much to cram into an arrangement. I got only part way on The Girl From Ipanema like that but will go back and try some of these suggestions. Cheers!

Very interesting. When you arrange songs, you are often impeded by full chords which May represent an obstacle to the fluidity of the remaining melody notes. Your method is valuable, as it allows a wide range of possibilities. The listener is able to recognize the melody as if it were sustained by arppegios and a strong Bass line. I am eager to see the pdf transcription of this arrangement.

What would you play in the bass for a song that stays on one chord for several bars? Would you just add some more notes based on the 10th of the melody note, or alternate between octaves? Or more like what you did on your version of Summertime?
